Modern Foreign Languages at The Grove

Learning and using another language allows children to explore the lifestyle and culture of another country through the medium of its language. In addition, it enhances their learning generally, teaching pupils to pay attention to the meaning and spelling of words, developing an awareness of grammar and sentence structure, and using context to aid understanding.

At The Grove, we have chosen to focus on two languages: French and Spanish. French is also taught in all three main local secondary schools that are pupils move on to.

Our specialist languages teachers take each class for 1 hour per week

Years 3 and 4 learn Spanish

Years 5 and 6 learn French

the focus of study is on practical communication, incorporating a balance of spoken and written language and is based on familiar and routine matters such as going to school, sports, hobbies, mealtimes and festivals.
